Hell no! The Moremi Ajasoro statue bears a semblance to The Statue of Liberty. However it is not a copy of any monument in the world. And definitely not a rip off of the Statue of Liberty.
However looks can be deceiving.
For one the statue of Liberty is a woman same as the Moremi and this depiction of absolutely correct.
From history, Moremi Ajasoro, Princess of the Yoruba, was a figure of high significance in the history of the Yoruba peoples of West Africa. She was a member-by-marriage of the royal family of Emperor Oduduwa, the tribe’s fabled founding father.
Moremi was a very brave and beautiful woman who, in order to deal with the problem facing her people, offered anything she had to give in sacrifice to the Spirit of the river Esimirin so that she could discover the strength of her nation’s enemies.
The torch in the statue represents the way and manner in which she she chased the Forest invaders off Ife. Using the torch to burn them.
The statue of Moremi is the 3rd tallest Statue in Africa and the tallest in Nigeria! This is a true African Cultural Rebirth!
